SweatShop Fitness Director

JOB SUMMARY:
Provide and model strong leadership and strategies to cultivate new clients, achieve sales goals, design and improve fitness programming. Manage operations for fitness department members including personal trainers, group fitness instructors and specifically POWER Group Training team, our fastest growing market. Actively collaborate and support management team members and owner. Embody the SweatShop mission statement and live the values of our code of conduct.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Lead and direct the day to day operations of the personal trainers and group fitness instructors. Support the marketing and sales efforts of the Guest Services staff . Balance the responsibilities of coaching trainers and instructors, training clients, teaching classes, meeting with prospective and new clients while maintaining weekly administrative tasks, including updating schedules, using and analyzing MindBody's reports, following up on internal and external communications, and managing the physical space of the trainers , instructors and FD's .

Department Management and Administration

  • Plan, develop and implement fitness operational policies, procedures, strategies, methods and goals that are in concert with the annual goals and budget.
  • Maintain a system for fitness equipment maintenance to assure we are 100% operational.
  • Develop operational standards and procedures for the fitness department.
  • Effectively report fitness revenue and expense activity to management team to determine changes in programs or operations required.
  • Work cooperatively and support ALL management team members.
  • Develop and maintain understanding and current knowledge of programming and trends in the health/fitness club industry to direct SweatShop to innovative opportunities.

Sales, Marketing and Public Relations

  • Coordinate activities, special events and schedules of the fitness team including planning, marketing and sales of programs, memberships and training packages
  • Provide 6-8 hours weekly of Guest Services/sales work, including a management shift during Open House weekends
  • Participate in special events, community or projects as assigned

Training and Supervising

  • Uphold and lead by example: a high level of customer service with both internal (team members) and external customers to maximize overall customer experience and retention
  • Coordinate and/or oversee fitness department activities to ensure that goals and strategies align with the SweatShop mission and values
  • Ensure staff competence in customer service to optimize and sustain profitability, member retention and customer satisfaction
  • Communicate with and coach fitness team members on performance levels and support team members professional growth
  • Practice excellent communication and teamwork skills organization wide, modeling the highest level of professionalsim
  • Develop, facilitate, and attend fitness department meetings
  • Grow the fitness department staff to drive sales of the departments through interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints and solving problems
  • Ensure staff meet performance standards,(e.g. job expectations through coaching, evaluations and informal exchanges as well as fitness team training and development).
  • Ensure that all trainers and instructors meet standards of proper safety, keep certifications up-to-date and standards.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Fitness Director reports to owner Gayle Winegar, works as member of the management team and interacts with all staff members as a manager and leader.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in health and fitness related field
  • Minimum of 3 years in the health and fitness industry
  • Minimum of 2 years successful experience in a management position
  • Proven skills in leadership, coaching and staff development
  • Ability to close sales and achieve sales goals
  • Knowledgeable of the health and fitness industry and fitness programs
  • Strong interpersonal and public persuasive presentation skills.
  • Strong teambuilding, interpersonal, coaching and decision-making skills
  • Excellent planning and implementation skills
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem solving skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to physically train and support clients and teach classes and maintain the fitness level required to do so.
  • Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time

COMPENSATION:
Will be determined based in qualifications, experience and will be in combination with a minimum of 15 training hours per week, 4-5 scheduled classes or group training sessions and agreed upon management schedule. This position is potentially fulltime with choice of benefits.
